Sarova Taita Hills Game lodge

The Sarova Taita Hills Game lodge was built like a German forte this can be seen from the architecture. The Sarova Taita Hills Game lodge was built in the 1970s and is constructed around an inner garden full of bougainvilleas scaling th e high walls and creating a profusion of colours. During the First World War the Taita area was a busy place with German and British soldiers fighting during world war 1. Instead of the usual stone brick, the walls are sand bags of cement, reminiscent of the war times. Heavy wooden doors open into the foyer where an enormous marble stone fireplace creates a meeting hub in the high-ceiling lounge bringing in a light of Space. After being closed for five years, Sarova hotels took it up and spruced it up. The marble walls, which were coated in a thick layer of dust are now showing their lustrous gleam. African spears and masks adorn the walls with the intricate makonde carving a speciality of the Makonde people of Tanzania.
